Warmer rooms without changing your windows
Much of the chill in a room with sash windows comes from air leaking around the sashes, not through the glass. Draught proofing seals those gaps, so rooms feel warmer, rattles stop and less dust and noise come in – while your windows look exactly as they did before. We draught proof sash and case windows across Larbert, Stenhousemuir and the Falkirk area.
How it works
Brush and seal strips are fitted into grooves routed into the sashes and beads, where they are hidden from view. They seal the meeting rails, the sides of the sashes, and the top and bottom of the window. Because they are brush seals, the sashes still slide freely.
- Sashes removed and eased so they run smoothly.
- Seals routed into the sash edges, meeting rails and beads.
- New staff beads and parting beads where the old ones are worn or damaged.
- Cords checked and replaced where needed, so the sashes balance properly.
Will the windows still open?
Yes. Done properly, draught-proofed sashes usually run better than before, because we overhaul them at the same time. You keep ventilation whenever you want it – just open the window.
Go further
For windows with rot or broken cords, draught proofing is best done as part of a full restoration. For the biggest improvement in warmth and noise, combine it with secondary glazing.
