The finishing touch that makes a room
Facings (architraves) and skirting boards are the details your eye goes to without noticing. When they are chipped, gapped or mismatched, a freshly decorated room still looks tired. When they are cut and fitted well, everything looks finished. We fit new facings and skirtings throughout Larbert, Stenhousemuir and the surrounding area.
Styles and materials
- MDF – smooth, stable and primed, ideal for painted finishes.
- Softwood – for traditional properties and stained finishes.
- Oak – to match oak doors and wooden floors.
- Profiles – from simple modern square-edge and pencil-round to torus, ogee and deep period mouldings.
Matching older mouldings
In older homes the original facings and skirtings are often deep, ornate profiles that you cannot buy off the shelf. Where only part of a room needs replacing, we can often source a close match or arrange for a profile to be run to match what you have, so new and old sit side by side without a join you can see.
How we fit them
Walls and floors are rarely straight, so we scribe skirting boards to follow the floor and mitre every corner tightly rather than relying on filler. Facings are set out with an even margin around the door lining. Everything is fixed securely, nail holes are filled, and the work is left ready for your decorator – or for you to paint.
Best done with new doors or floors
If you are replacing your doors, having the facings done at the same time gives the neatest result – see internal door fitting. Fitting new skirtings after a new wooden floor also hides the expansion gap the floor needs around its edges.
